Abstract

Kenitu rind extract has antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli which are Gram-negative, Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus which are Gram-positive. The purpose of this study was to test the antibacterial activity of the extracts, the fraction of n-heksan, ethyl acetate, and water from the rind of fruit kenitu (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 with dilution method. Kenitu rind (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) extracted in maceration with solvent ethanol 70% followed by oil using n-heksan, ethyl acetate, and water. Extracts and fractions tested antibacterial activity using the dilution method with concentrations of 800mg/ml; 400mg/ml; 200mg/ml; 100mg/ml; 50mg/ml; 25mg/ml; 12,5mg/ml; 6,25mg/ml; 3,125mg/ml; 1,5625mg/ml to determined the value of the MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) and MBC (Minimum Bactericidal Concentration). The identification of the most active groups at a fraction of the compounds was done by Thin Layer Chromatography. The results of this study indicate that the etanolic extract, the fraction of ethyl acetate, and water have activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The results showed that ethanol extract, ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction have activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 with MBC consecutive 200mg/ml, 400mg/ml and 100mg/ml. MIC unobservable because extract color that to dark and the turbidity was high. Based on the results of the identification in TLC, the chemical content of the water fraction was saponins, tannins, and flavonoids.
