Abstract
Zodia leaf (Evodia sauveolens, Scheff) is a plant that is empirically efficacious as antimicrobials. Zodia leaf chemical constituents are essential oils, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and tannins. This study was conducted to determine the activity for n-hexane fraction, chloroform fraction, water fraction and ethanolic extracts of leaves zodia (Evodia sauveolens, Scheff) as antibacterial against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. The method used in this research is the method of maceration with 96 % ethanol solvent followed by solvent n-hexane, chloroform and water. Antibacterial activity test performed by the dilution method. Concentration of ethanolic extracts and fractions are used 50.0 % ; 25 % ; 12.5 % ; 6.2 % ; 3.1 % ; 1.5 % ; 0.7 % ; 0.3 % ; 0.1 % ; 0.09 %. The results showed that the ethanolic extract and water fraction has committed a minimum concentration of 50% against the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. The fraction of water from ethanolic extracts of leaves zodia has the most active antibacterial activity compared with a fraction of n- hexane and chloroform fractions. This can be caused because the water fraction of the ethanolic extract of the leaves zodia contains saponins and tannins that can be useful as an antibacterial.
