Abstract

Condition where there is serum uric acid levels increase above normal called hyperuricemia. Elevation of serum uric acid levels can cause gout. This study was aimed to determine anti-gout activity and effective dosage in administration water fraction of meniran herb (Phyllanthus niruri L.) ethanol extract in hyperuricemia leghorn cock. This study was use six cock groups and induced by high purine food (cock liver juice 100% w/v) once a day orally during treatment. Treatment was given until serum uric acid levels of cock decrease. Uric acid levels was checked at all treatment groups at 0, 7, and 14 days. Group I as normal control, group II as comparison control (Allopurinol 9.33 mg/kg BW cock), group III hyperuricemia control (CMC 0,5%), groups IV, V, VI as treatment group was given preparation of water fraction of meniran herb ethanol extract with dosages of 6,87 mg/kg BW, 13,75 mg/kg BW, and 20,62 mg/kg BW, respectively. Data obtained were analyzed by one way ANOVA. The results showed all treatment groups gave effect decrease of uric acid levels. Decrease of uric acid levels comparable with increasing dosage. Dosage 6,87 mg/kg BW was shown most effective uric acid levels decrease when compared with others treatment group dosage. At this dose, the decrease effect was equivalent to comparison control group which given allopurinol. Keywords: meniran herb, anti-gout, uric acid, water fraction
