Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) is a high cost chronic disease whose incidence continues to increase every year. Various studies have shown that drug cost is the biggest cost component in the treatment of T2DM, thus the analysis of drug cost is an important thing to consider. This study aims to investigate the average cost of drugs as well as the characteristics of type 2 DM inpatients and prescribing profiles in RSUD dr. Haryoto Kabupaten Lumajang. Data were taken retrospectively using medical record data of patients with the main diagnosis of T2DM from January 2017-August 2018, details of drug use and its cost were taken from pharmacy department and clinical outcome from the medical record. The data were analyzed drug cost profile and outcome from oral antidiabetic use in hospitalized patients. The results of this study showed that the average cost for patients whose using biguanide, sulfonylurea and a combination of biguanide-sulfonylurea usage were Rp. 1.854.797, Rp. 408.593, and Rp. 956.516 respectively. Whereas the percentage of patients whose achieving outcome target in usage of biguanide, sulfonylurea and combination of biguanide-sulfonylurea were 54%, 72%, and 68% respectively.
