Abstract

Curcuma mangga contains curcumin which can be applied as a sunscreen to prevent ultra-violet (UV) radiation.Sunscreen isprepared in lotion dosage form which has a lessviscous that make possible allows to use quickly and evenly on the skin surface .The aim of study was to determine the effect of variation concentrations of triethanolamine (TEA) and glycerin on the physical properties and the value of sun protecting factor (SPF) lotion of ethanol extract of Curcuma mangga. Ethanol extract was obtained by maceration method using ethanol 96 % . In vitro SPF value was measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometer and calculated usingnon-linear regression method. Formulation of Curcuma mangga extract in lotion was prepared by several ratios of TEA and glycerinthat consist offive formula i.e F1 (1:5), F2 (0.5:15), F3 (1:15), F4 (1.5:15), and F5 (1:25). The stability test of physical properties of lotion includedhomogeneity, organoleptic, spreadibility, viscosity, and pH. The results were statistically analyzed using two way ANOVA with 95% of confidence level. The results showed that the glycerin and TEA affected on the physical stability of the sunscreen lotion of Curcuma mangga extract.The ratio of TEA and glycerin 0.5:15 was the most stable formulation among the other formulations. Curcuma manga extract with concentrations of 0.06 % provided an SPF value of 30. Keywords : Curcuma mangga, SPF, glycerin, TEA, lotion
