Abstract

Knowledge of DM is very important for DM patients. Knowledge will affect the adherence of drug use in application of DM management to control their blood sugar levels and prevent chronic complications so improve the quality of life. This study was conducted to determine effect of levels of knowledge to quality of life with adherence of drug use as intermediate variable. This study using cross sectional method by survey for 3 months. The research instrument used were questionnaire of Diabetes Knowlegde Questionnaire (DKQ 24), New 8 item Self Report Morinsky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS8) and Quality of Life (WHOQOL) -BREF. Samples were determined in accordance with inclusion and exclusion criteria for total sample of 34. Administration of questionnaires to respondents was done assistance in filling. The data of respondents answer was recapitulated and calculated the score of each questionnaire, and then analyzed using path analysis. The results showed that the levels of knowledge of diabetes mellitus type 2 patients significantly affect to quality of life as 31.6%. The levels of knowledge of diabetes mellitus type 2 patients significantly affect to adherence of drug use as 25.1%. Adherence of drug use diabetes mellitus type 2 patients significantly affect to quality of life 75.2%. Adherence of drug use as intermediate variable increase the effect of levels of knowledge diabetes type 2 patients to quality of life from 24% to 29%.
