Abstract

Salbutamol sulphate is an agonis β adrenergic that have been used as asthma threatmet with half life 4-6 hours. Salbutamol sulphate completely absorbed in stomach thus gastroretentive drug delivery with muchoadhesive system is promising to enhance the bioavailability and prolong the drug release. This research aimed to determine the influence of Carbopol® 940P and HPMC K15M concentration variations on of physical properties of tablet, muchoadhesive strength and drug release of salbutamol sulphate tablet. The research was done using the five formulas with variation of Carbopol® 940P and HPMC K15M. Physical properties inspection was conducted on granules, tablet, mucoadhesive strength and the drug release. Dissolution test was carried out using apparatus II USP model with 900 ml HCl 0.1N as medium, stirring rate of 50 rpm, the temperature at 37±0.5oC for 6 hours. The results showed that combination of Carbopol® 940P and HPMC K15M was not significant affected statistically (p>0.05) on physical properties of tablet, although mucoadhesive strength and the drug release was affected (p<0.05). Carbopol® 940P was the most dominant factor affected the mucoadhesive strength. Carbopol® 940P and HPMC K15M combination decreased the release of drug of salbutamol sulphate due to their synergic effect. Keywords: mucoadhesive, salbutamol sulphate, Carbopol® 940P, HPMC K15M.
