Abstract

Attapulgit is adsorbensia class was widely used as an germs adsorbent that cause diarrhea and improve stool consistency. Attapulgit in this study was made into a chewable tablet dosage form to provide a treatment that can be easily administered to the children or the elderly. The study purposes were determined the effect of the filler concentration combination of mannitol and lactose to the physical quality of attapulgit chewable tablets. Attapulgit chewable tablets were produced using wet granulation method. Granulation is made with three formulas, Formula I 100% Mannitol and 0% Lactose, Formula II 50% Mannitol and 50% Lactose, Formula III 0% Mannitol and 100% Lactose. The resulting data were statistically analyzed by One Way ANOVA with significance level of 95%. The study result were showed that Formula III is chewable tablets with higher hardness and low brittleness, faster shattered time and lower sweetness level than Formula of Formula I and II. The formula I gave physical quality chewable tablet attapulgit is the best. Keywords: Chew Tablets, Attapulgit, Mannitol, Lactose, Wet Granulation.
