Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) disease is a hyperglycemia one characterized with the absolute absence of insulin or relatively decreased cell insensitivity to insulin. Diabetes mellitus is caused by two factors. The typical symptom of DM consists of poliuria, polidipsia, poliphagia, and weight loss without clear cause. Meanwhile atypical symptoms of DM are weakness, numbness, refractory lesion, itchiness, obscure vision, erection dysfunction (men) and pruritus vulva (women). The management of DM can be done using pharmacotherapy. The objective of research was to find out the oral antidiabetic-drug use pattern in outpatients in RSUI (Islamic General Hospital) YAKSSI Gemolong. This scientific work was organized based on the result of research on RSUI YAKSSI. This study was conducted based on the result of secondary data collection, in this case the data of oral antidiabetic drug, by observing the monthly drug use report in Medical Record and Pharmacy Installation of RSUI YAKSSI Gemolong from February to April 2014. The method used is descriptive method and the sampling technique used is total sampling. The result of research showed that the antidiabetic drugs used frequently by the DM patients were: (1) Metformin, (2) Glibenclamid, (3) Pedab, (4) Glimepiride, (5) Gliuidone and (6) Glumin XR. Metformin an oral antidiabetic medication frequently used type 2 diabetes melitus patient being able to control the condition becomes normal glycemia and may improve beta cell function in the body.
