Abstract
Diabetic lesion is the one occurring in the patient with diabetic disease involving impaired peripheral and autonomous nerves. A diabetic patient will acquire lesion easily due to vascular and nervous complication. Synthetic drugs usually used topically are antiseptic and antibiotic ones that only deal with infectious problem. For that reason, many studies have been conducted on herbal drug that can be used to cure diabetic lesion. The objective of research was to find out the activity of combined srikaya leaves and pegagan herb ethanol extracts cream in healing the lesion in hyperglycemic rat. In this research, 28 tested animals were used divided into 7 groups: group 1 as negative control, group 2 as positive control, group 3 a single dose of srikaya ethanol extract cream, group 4 a single dose of pegagan ethanol extract cream, groups 5, 6 and 7 dose combined srikaya leaves and pegagan herb ethanol extracts cream. Thereafter, they were induced with alloxane 150 mg/kg Bw intraperitoneally. Seven days later, the blood glucose level of rat was reexamined. Induction was stated as successful when the increase in fasted blood glucose level was beyond 150 mg/dl. The animals were then injured and treated topically by administering the cream to each tested group until the day-21. The observation was conducted by measuring the percentage lesion healing on the days-1, -4, -8, - 12, -16, and -21. Day 21 in the experimental animals sacrificed, then the network is taken for histopathological test. The result of research, based on the thickness of the epithelium and percentage lesion healing, showed that the preparation of combined srikaya leaves (10%) and pegagan herb (5%) ethanol extracts cream had the best lesion healing effect.
