Abstract

Improper waste management can become a breeding ground for disease vectors such as cockroaches. Cockroaches are a class of insects that love to live in dirty places, markets, houses, trash cans, ditches and where people serve food, making cockroaches a vector of mechanical diseases like bacteria and parasites. Cockroaches can carry diseases attached to the body and stick to the place in the past. The problem formulation of this study is whether there are types of protozoa of the intestine and how many porsentases are exposed to intestinal protozoa. The purpose of this study was to determine the type of protozoa intestine found on the surface of the cockroach body and know the pententase exposed to protozoa intestine. Sampling was done randomly in January-March at Nusukan Surakarta Market. The sample used was 20 samples by using sedimentation method with addition of 0.9% NaCl solution and lugol solution, then observed by microscope. Based on the results of the study, of 20 samples of Perplanetta americana cockroach found 3 positive samples (15%) Balantidium coli tropfozoit stage and 17 negative samples (85%) were not exposed to intestinal protozoa.
