Abstract

Garcinia mangostana L pericarp was contain tannins, resins, alkaloids, saponins, phenols, flavonoids, steroids, terpenoids and glycosides. The high tannin content of mangosteen pericarp has a bitter taste. Besides causing a bitter taste, tannin that content pericarp efficacious as antidiarrheal medication. This study aimed to determine the antidhiarreal effects of ethanolic pericarp extract of mangosteen and that effective dosage. Pericarp extracts obtained by maceration process using 70% ethanolic. Mangosteen dose used were 70% ethanol pericarp extract of mangosteen dose of 2,11 mg/20 g mice, 4,22 mg/20 g mice and 6,33 mg/20 g mice with 0.5% CMC positive control and positive control loperamide HCl. Research of antidiarrheal effects of ethanolic pericarp extract of mangosteen using frequency of diarrhea, stool weight and stool consistency. Stool weight data were analyzed using one-way Anova test, whereas frequency of diarrhea and stool consistency parameters were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The results showed that for the parameter frequency of diarrhea and fecal weight were significant differences among the five treatment groups, whereas the parameters for faecal consistency no significant difference. Of the three dose variation, 70% ethanol extract dose 4,22 mg/20 g bb mice mangosteen pericarp was more effective as an antidiarrheal than another dose.
