Abstract

Ginger is one of the traditional crops are efficacious as a tonic. There are 3 kinds of ginger: red ginger, big ginger, small ginger. This study aims to determine the tonic effect of each ginger rhizome. In this study each ginger rhizome was prepared into tea bags. The tested animals were white male mice that were arranged into treatment groups. Each treatment group consisted of 5 mice. The first group was treated with distilled water as a negative control. Second group was treated with big ginger at 6,24 mg/kg BW mice of dose. Third group was treated with small ginger at 6,24 mg/kg BW mice of dose. Fourth group was treated with red ginger at 6,24 mg/kg BW mice of dose. Fifth group was treated with caffeine at 2 mg/kg BW mice of dose. The tested animals were placed into the water tank. Once the sign of fatigue showed the tested animals were moved from the water tank and were noted for the time exhaustion. The results showed that the preparation of the three kinds of tea bags ginger rhizome has a tonic effect. The highest tonic effect was from red ginger rhizome, the lower effect was big ginger rhizome, and the lowest effect was small ginger rhizome.
