Abstract

Acute diarrhea is defecation more than thrice per a day accompanied with the changing consistency of feces into liquid with or without mucous and blood. This research aimed to find out the rationality of drug use in pediatric patient with acute diarrhea in inpatient installation of Surakarta Panti Waluyo Hospital in 2013. The method employed in this study was a non-experimental descriptive one, with retrospective data collection from medical records of pediatric patient with acute diarrhea. The data used were age, gender, drug use, dose, and treatment duration. The data taken from 106 patients was then categorized by indication, analyzed and compared with WGO and Dipiro guidelines. From the result of research on drug use evaluation in pediatric patient with acute diarrhea in inpatient installation of Surakarta Panti Waluyo Hospital in 2013 with the parameters of appropriate indication, appropriate drug, appropriate patient and appropriate dose, it could be concluded that the percentage evaluation was 97.41% for indication appropriateness, 83.33% for drug appropriateness, 100% for patient appropriateness, and 83.33% for dose appropriateness.
