Abstract

Binahong plant (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) is a potential medicinal plant that can overcome a wide variety of diseases. Cream (Cremores) is a form of half-solid preparation containing one or more dissolved or dispersed drug substances in the appropriate base material. This study aims to formulate ethanol extract of binahong leaves which then created into the form of antioxidant cream preparation. This research used three formulas with variation of extract concentration of 5%, 10% and 15%. Ethanol extract of binahong leaves was made by using the maceration method with 70% ethanol as a solvent. It was then concentrated using vacuum rotary evaporator. Next, cream preparation was made, then antioxidant activity was tested by the DPPH method. Its physical stability was observed, covering its homogeneity, viscosity, viscosity shift, cream type, pH and the spread of power. The antioxidant activity was determined by using UV-VIS spectrophotometer with wavelength of 515 nm. The results showed that the ethanol extract of binahong leaves has antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 53,103 ppm. IC50 value of ethanol extract of binahong leaves cream is 115 ppm, 107,917 ppm, and 95,45 ppm after the manufacture and 201,428 ppm, 173,571 ppm and 160,322 ppm after 30 days of storage with a concentration of 5%, 10% and 15%. This suggested that the higher the concentration of the extract, the higher the antioxidant activity, indicated by the lower the IC50 value.
