Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a disease which caused by metabolic disorders primarily on system metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and also proteins in the body which is caused by damage of the insulin secretion, insulin activity or both of them. Cucurbita moschata D. is a plant that has activity one of it is type 2 diabetes mellitus. This research aimed to find out antidiabetic effect of ethanol extract pumpkin seeds in rats which has an insulin resistance with obesity induction. This research was conducted by using a complete randomized methode unidirectional pattern. Tested animals used were divided in to 6 groups. Group I was given distilled water, group II was given 0.5% CMC, group III metformin 18mg/200g bw, group IV was given 20 mg/200g bw, group V was given 40 mg/200 g bw, and group VI was given 80 mg/200g bw. Animals was insulin resistence induced by giving glucose intake 2 g/kg bw and High Fat Diet (HFD) for 5 weeks. Test material was gived orally. The result of this research showed that the ethanol extract of pumpkin seeds with variation of dose 20 mg/200 g bw, 40 mg/200 g bw and 80 mg/200 g bw rat give the effect. However, based on statistical analysis, there were no significant differences between group of pumpkin seeds extract and control metformin. Thus, the ethanol extract of pumpkin seeds have antidiabetic activity of comparable dose variation in lowering blood glucose levels in client with type 2 diabetes mellitus who have insulin resistance with obesity induction.
