Abstract
Pain is an unpleasant feeling associated with the threat of tissue damage. One way to relieve pain is to use topical medications. Active substances that can overcome topical pain include methyl salicylate. the methyl salicylate preparation will be made into an emulsifier. The use of an emulgel allows for longer skin contact, is practical, and gives a cooler feel to the skin. The purpose of this research is to know the effect of Carbopol 940 concentration variation and Tragakan on emulgel physical quality test. Method of preparation of methyl salicylate emulgel by mixing two phases, water phase and oil phase, then added with variation of Carbopol 940 and Tragakan concentration. Emulsigence tests include oragnoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, pH tests, viscosity tests, spreading test, and adhesion test. The data obtained were analyzed by anova statistic test followed by t-test with 95%. The results showed homogeneity, pH, and organoleptis in formula 1, formula 2 and formula 3 had the same results. The viscosity of the formula 3 is greater than that of formula 1 and of formula 2. The dispersion of formula 1 is broader than formula 2 and formula 3 and the adhesion of formula 3 is longer than formula 1 and formula 2. Keywords : Emulgel, methyl salicylate, physical quality test, Carbopol 940 and Tragakan
