Abstract
An inflammatory is a response to tissue damage due to various adverse stimuli both chemical and mechanical stimuli, infection and foreign substances such as bacteria and viruses. The content of steroids in takokak fruit unknown anti-inflammatory activity. Previous studies have shown that ethanol extract of the takokak fruits has anti-inflammatory activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of n-Hexane fraction of the ethanol extract of the takokak fruit. This study used 25 rats and divided into 5 groups: negative control (CMC 0.5 %), positive control (methylprednisolone), n-Hexane fraction of the ethanol extract of the takokak fruit with doses 25 mg/kg bw, 50 mg/kg bw and 100 mg/kg bw. Each rat induced by 0.1 mL carrageenan 0.1 % subplantar then measured the edema volume at hours 0.5; 1; 2; 3; 4; 5 and 24. From edema volume data can calculated AUC and % anti-inflammatory activity. The results showed that n-Hexane fraction of the ethanol extract of the takokak fruit have anti-inflammatory activity in rats. n-Hexane fraction of the ethanol extract of the takokak fruit with doses 25 mg/kg bw, 50 mg/kg bw, and 100 mg/kg bw showed anti-inflammatory activity of 93% ± 4,36; 89,54% ± 4,17; dan 85,99% ± 8,34 respectively. n-Hexane fraction of the ethanol extract of the takokak fruit with dose 25 mg/kg bw have anti-inflammatory activity is efective compared with doses 50 mg/kg bw and 100 mg/kg bw.
