Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia. DM therapy is the treatment of the long-term obstacle is the risk effect of treatment success side and high cost of treatment. Red dragon fruit has a flavonoid content that merit as an agent antidiabetes . The purpose of this research was to know the activity of ethanol extract of red dragon that give effect decrease blood glucose levels in white male rats alloxan-induced. Ethanolic extract of red dragon was done by maceration. The alloxan dose used as diabetic inducer was 150 mg/kg BW, internationally. Glibenclamide dose as positive control was calculated from the usual dose. The test was conducted by alloxan induction method on 5 groups of mice. Randomly divided into 5 groups, each group was given: negative control (CMC Na 0.5%); positive control (glibenclamide 0.45 mg/kgBW rat); ethanolic extract of red dragon fruit with dose 1 (319 mg/200g BW rat); dose 2 (637 mg/200g BW rat); dose 3 (955 mg/200g BW rat). Blood glucose levels are determined by using Easy Touch glucometer tool. The results concluded that ethanolic extract of red dragon can decrease blood glucose levels in white male rats alloxan-induced. Ethanolic extract of red dragon at dose 955 mg/200 g BW rat was the most effective in decrease blood glucose levels of white rat. Keywords: red dragon fruit, hyperglycemia, blood glucose levels
