Abstract
Noni fruit (Morinda citrifolia L.) contain polyphenols, flavonoids, saponins which demonstrates its role as an antioxidant. Noni fruit extract is formulated in the form of gel for topical use of comfort and convenience. Gel is made with the method of optimization of Simplex Lattice Design (SLD) so that the resulting optimum formula. This research aims to optimize the gel formula of noni fruit extract as an antioxidant with SLD method. Gel uses a base of CMC-Na (A) and (B) Carbopol 940 so obtained 3 formula: F1 (100% A:0% B), F2 (50% A:50% B), F3 (0% A:100% B) then optimized based on physical properties of viscosity, power latched onto, power spread, and the shift of viscosity. Equation of SLD used to make gel with the total response of physical properties of gel the most optimum then tested using the method of DPPH antioxidant activity. Antioxidant activity is calculated by determining the DPPH absorbance of controls and samples so the absorbance values obtained through analysis of IC50 probit with vitamin C as a comparison. Optimum formula between CMC and Carbopol 940-Na as a gelling agent, CMC-Na 78,92%, Carbopol 940 21,08% with desirability value 0,511. The results indicate that optimum gel has antioxidant activity is active with IC50 value of 92,875 ppm. The storage time affect the physical properties and quality of gel.
