Abstract

In developing countries, more than 150 millions pneumonia cases occur annually, and Indonesian occupies the sixth rank in the term of patient numbers; infants and young children are vulnerable to pneumonia and it is the leading cause of death in adult. The objectives of research were to find out the prevalence of pneumonia disease, to find out the inpatient and outpatient costs, to find out the total cost of pneumonia disease, and to find out whether or not age or secondary diagnosis affected the total cost of pneumonia disease. This study was an analytical observational research using cross-sectional design according to hospital perspective, with retrospective data collection method to collect the data of national health insurance claim document during January – December in 2014 with code INA-CBGs J-4-16-I, J-4-16-II, and J-4-16-III. The data analysis employed a descriptive analysis to find out the patient characteristic, cost analysis to find out the total cost of pneumonia disease in outpatient and inpatient units of Local General Hospital of Baubau City, and correlation test to find out the relationship of age and secondary diagnosis to total cost of pneumonia disease. The result of research showed the prevalence of pneumonia disease in Local General Hospital of Baubau City for 111 outpatients and 102 inpatients. Considering the characteristics patients, either inpatient or outpatient, it could be found that most patients with pneumonia disease were male. Total cost of pneumonia disease in outpatient unit was IDR. 16,382,539, and that in outpatient unit was IDR. 136,170,755. Age and secondary diagnosis in pneumonic patient in inpatient unit affected total cost of disease while the factor affecting the total cost of diseases was secondary diagnosis.
