Abstract
Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav. has potential as an anti-inflammatory. This research is intended to know the anti-inflammatory activity ethanol extract and fractions of the P. crocatum in rats induced by carrageenan, how the stabilization activity on human red blood cell (HRBC) membrane, safety on the gastrointestinal and to identification the chemical constituens of P. crocatum with TLC. P. crocatum leaves was macerated using ethanol 96% and then fractionated by n-heksan, ethyl acetat and water. In vivo anti-inflammatory activity test induced by carrageenan used 8 groups, negative control, positive control, ethanol extract 200 mg/kgBB, 100mg/kgBB, 50mg/kgBB, n-hexane fraction 50 mg/kgBB, ethyl acetate fraction 50 mg/kgBB and water fraction 50 mg/kgBB, continued by safety test on the gastrointestinal was done by macroscopic and histopathological observation. Then, in vitro anti-inflammatory activity test induced by hypotonis solution used 4 groups with different concentrations. The result in vivo, anti-inflammatory activity the most optimal showed by extract 100 mg/kgBB and ethyl acetate fraction 50mg/kgBB. The result in vitro, anti-inflammatory activity the most optimal showed by ethyl acetate fraction 400 ppm. Ethanol extract 100 mg/kgBB, 50 mg/kgBB and ethyl acetate fraction 50 mg/kgBB showed safety on the gastrointestinal. Flavonoid, steroid, and saponin responsible for anti-inflammatory activity of P. Crocatum. The results showed that ethyl acetate fraction exhibit anti-inflammatory activity and safety on the gastrointestinal better than other fractions. Key word: in vivo anti-inflammatory activity, in vitro anti-inflammatory activity, Piper crocatum
