Abstract

Zodia leaves (Evodia sauveolens, Scheff.) is a plant which empirically efficacious as drug fever, abdominal pain, wounds, and toothaches. Zodia leaf chemical constituents are essential oils, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and tannins. This research was conducted to determine the fraction activity ether, ethyl acetate,water and ethanolic extracts of zodia leaves (Evodia sauveolens, Scheff.) as antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The method used in this research is the method of maceration with 96 % ethanol extraction solvent followed by solvent fracination ether, ethyl acetate and water. Antibacterial activity test performed by the dilution method. Concentration of ethanolic extracts and fractions for use dilution test 50.0 % ; 25 % ; 12.5 % ; 6.2 % ; 3.1 % ; 1.5 % ; 0.7 % ; 0.3 % ; 0.1 % ; 0.09 % . The results showed that the ethanolic extract and water fraction has minimum kill concentration of 50% against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. The fraction of water from ethanolic extracts of zodia leaves is the most active antibacterial activity compared with the fraction of ether and ethyl acetate.
