Abstract

Antioxidant is important compounds to maintaining body health. Because having functions as a free radical catcher. Gedi merah contain flavonoid, tannin, alkaloids, saponins, anthraquinone and anthocyanin suspected of having antioxidant activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the ethanol extract of n- hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water fractionof gedi merah leaves had antioxidant activity using DPPH method, and to find out the most active fractions that act as antioxidant. Gedi merah leaf powder macerated using 70% ethanol then ethanol extract was fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water. Compounds from extracts and fractions were then identified by KLT. Fractions and extract were tested for antioxidant activity with free radicals DPPH using a spectrophotometer and using routine positive controls. After testing the antioxidant activity then determine the IC50 value. After obtaining the results, the data obtained were analyzed by SPSS one way anova. The results showed that ethanolic extract of gedi merah leaves had antioxidant activity of 116,66 ppm, n hexane fraction of 211,78 ppm, ethyl acetate fraction of 84,19 ppm, and water fraction of 95,73 ppm, and rutin of 9,52 ppm. Ethyl acetate fraction has the most potent antioxidant activity. Keyword : gedi merah leaves, ethanol extract DPPH, fraction, antioxidant.
