Abstract

Turmeric is one of the medication plants which has been proven to have antioxidant activity because it contains 50%-60% kurkuminoid substances. The aim this research is to know variation concentration effect of turmeric ethanolic extract in cream formulation to the physical stability and antioxidant activity. Extract of turmeric rhizome is obtained by maseration way of the using 96% ethanol liquid. The cream made in 5 formulas where the formula 1, 2, and 3 each contain extracts as much as 5%, 10%, and 20%. Formula 4 is a positive control and formula 5 is a negative control. Antioxidant activity tested with the DPPH method, and observed physical stability, the homogeneity, spreading, adhesing, viscosity, pH, and type of cream, respectively. The results shows that the cream of extract ethanolic from turmeric rhizome in various concentrations have good homogenity. More than concentration of extract in cream produce the viscosity and adhesing smaller, but spreading getting bigger. The IC50 extract ethanolic of turmeric rhizome is 43,152 ppm. Result from antioxidant activity shows IC50 of formula 1, 2, and 3 straight up is 67,143 ppm, 64,565 ppm, and 62,116 ppm, respectively. Result shows there are differences antioxidant activity of extract ethanolic from turmeric rhizome before and after they made a cream, and after the storage for 21 days.
