Abstract

Nanocapsulation is process wich one or more materials are coated by another material. The purpose of this study was to absorb (encapsulated) unstable mahogany seed oil into the polymer. The polymer used must have biodegradable, biocompartible and bioreabsorbsibilitas conditions. Natrium alginat, PVA (Polivinil Alkohol) and PVP (Polivinil Pirolidon) are polymer has these requirements. This research was encapsulate the mahogany seed oil with PVA, PVP and Sodium Alginate polymers, polymer constration in use respectively by 0,2%; 0.4%; 0.6%; 0.8%; and 1%. This is followed by characterization through particle size observation, potential zeta, freeze thaw cycle test, apparatus efficiency, and centrifugation test. Nanocapsule’s classification using physical observation of 15 formulas results most of all the emulsions in white-milk and turbid colors, the particle’s dimension of 15 formulas has been fulfilled nanometer dimension requirement which is less than 100nm. Coating efficiency test on all selected formulas F1, F6 and F14 can coat the oil as much as 95%. Zeta potential test on selected formula after 5-hour centrifugation process results F1 -40,2mV; F6 -24,6mV; F14 10,7mV; zeta potential test after a month storage results F1 -37,2mV; F6 -20,9mV dan F14 -10,8mV. The three selected formulas have passed stability test, and the result of those three formulas are unstable. Keywords: encapsulation, mahogany seed oil, PVA, PVP, Sodium Alginate
