Abstract

Malaria is an endemic disease in tropical and sub tropical regions caused by the parasite plasmodium. Garcinia dulcis Kurz has antimalarial activity. This study aim to analyze the activity of the ethyl acetate extract of Garcinia dulcis Kurz stem bark as antiplasmodium and determine ED50 value of this extract can inhibit the growth of Plasmodium berghei. Extracts were made by multilevel maceration using n-hexane and ethyl acetate solvent. The method used in this study is Peter 's Test which was given intervention for four days. Test animals were divided into six treatment groups, they are negative control group (CMC 0.5 %), positive control group (Chloroquine 5 mg/kg BW), group extract at a dose of 12.5 mg/kg BW , 25 mg/kg BW, 50 mg/kg BW, and 100 mg/kg BW. From 1st day to 4th day thin blood smear preparations were made for counting parasites were observed under a microscope magnification of 1000x. ED50 value was determined by the percentage of parasite growth inhibition on 4th day . The results showed that the ethyl acetate extract of the Garcinia dulcis Kurz has activity as antiplasmodium . ED50 value of ethyl acetate extract of the Garcinia dulcis Kurz is 5,00 mg/kg BW. Keywords: Garcinia dulcis Kurz stem bark, parasitemia, antiplasmodium, ED50.
