Abstract

Cream is a semi-solid dosage form with emulsion system that containing water unless than 60% and is intended for external use. Citronella oil cream can be used as a topical repellant. Preparation of citronella oil cream (Cymbopogon citratus (DC.) Stapf) is good and stable stearic acid required with a certain concentration in a preparation. This study aims to determine the test of physical quality and stability of citronella oil cream with variation of stearic acid concentration. Citronella oil is made into cream preparations with a vanishing cream base with variations of stearic acid concentrations of 10%, 15% and 20%. Furthermore, each formula tested physical quality includes organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH, adhesion, spreading, viscosity and stability using the Freeze Thaw method. The results showed that citronella oil cream with various formulas has good homogeneity, the higher the stearic acid concentration resulting in higher viscosity value and smaller spreading power. The data obtained were then analyzed statistically by kolmogorov-smirnov test followed by one way anova and post hoc test with 95% confidence citronella.oil cream with 15% and 20% concentration of stearic acid has the best physical properties such as organoleptis, homogeneity, pH, adhesion and spreading.power.
