Abstract
Acute Upper Respiratory Infection is a major health problem commonly found in Indonesia and is most common in infants. The high prevalence of Acute Upper Respiratory Infection and their impact have led to high consumption of antibiotics. Rationality of the use of antibiotics is very important to note to prevent the adverse effects of antibiotic use. This study aims to determine and analyze the rationality of the use of antibiotics which includes appropriate indication of disease, appropriate drug selection, appropriate dosage and appropriate length of administration. The type of research used is descriptive research with retrospective approach that is by collecting prescription data in accordance with the inclusion criteria of patients under five years old with outpatient Acute Upper Respiratory Infection patient in UPT Gambirsari Health Center Surakarta and analyzed with Basic Medical Guidelines at Puskesmas Year 2008. The results of the study revealed that of 288 samples of patient underfive years old with Acute Upper Respiratory Infection at outpatient at UPT Gambirsari Health Center Surakarta, 288 cases (100%) precise disease indication, 288 cases (100%) precise drug selection, 284 cases (98.61%) precise dose , 2 cases (0.7%) the exact duration of administration.
