Abstract

Red Meniran (Phyllanthus urinaria Linn.) and Red Betel (Piper crocatum) is one of the traditional plants are efficacious as antibacterial. Red meniran and red betel contains flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids and tannins. The aim of this research is to know the antibacterial activity of ethanolic extract of red meniran (Phyllanthus urinaria L.), red betel (Piper crocatum), and combination (1:1) (1:2) (2:1) against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Red Meniran and Red Betel powder combined with 3 (1:1) (1:2) (2:1) ratios. Red Meniran, Red Betel and combination (1:1) (1:2) (2:1) were extracted using maseration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The result of extraction was tested of antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 using diffusion method. The diffusion method was done to find out the inhibition power of Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATC 27853 with concentration of 50% and 25%. Statistic analysis using ANOVA one way to know whether there is significant difference between test preparation. The results showed that all extracts had antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. Red Meniran ethanolic extract was an active antibacterial extract with a diameter of 13.5 mm inhibitory at a concentration of 50%, then a concentration of 25% resulted in a diameter of 11.5 mm inhibitory power. Comparison combination (2:1) is an active combination as an antibacterial with a diameter of 13 mm inhibitory at a concentration of 50%, then a concentration of 25% produces a diameter of 10.5 mm inhibitory power. This combination has antibacterial activity that is comparable to a single Red Meniran ethanolic extract.
