Abstract

Clove essential oil is a substance that has activity as antiseptics. Emulgel is a topical preparation comprising an emulsion preparation prepared in gel form with the addition of a gelling agent. This study aims to determine whether the difference in gelling agent concentration can affect the physical quality of emulgel and what is the concentration of gelling agent that gives the best physical quality. The experiment was conducted by making emulgel with variation of concentration of HPMC used is 0,5% (F1), 1% (F2) and 1,5% (F3). Physical quality evaluation includes organoleptic testing, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, dispersion , adhesion, emulsifying type and stability of preparations. Statistical analysis with ANOVA with 95% confidence level. The results showed that different HPMC concentrations could affect the physical quality of emulgel produced. Based on the result of the test, the third formula obtained with HPMC concentration of 1.5% has the best physical quality. Keywords: Antiseptic, emulgel, HPMC, physical quality
