Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a disease that affects many of people. Mahogany seeds are traditional medicinal plants that have medicinal benefits antihyperglycemic or can treat diabetes mellitus. The drugs combination of antidiabetes medications can affect of a decrease in blood glucose levels better. This experiment was aimed to find out the antihyperglycemic activity of combination of mahagoby seed extract with glibenclamide on decreasing blood glucose levels. The method used to test determine blood glucose levels was aloxan diabetes test. The test animals were divided in 6 groups, each group consists of 5 animals.Group I CMC 0.5% , group II glibenclamide dose of 0,013 mg/20 g BB , group III mahogany seed extract dose of 14 mg/20 g BB, group IV was the combination of seed extract mahogany-glibenclamide (25%: 75%) dose of 0,115 mg/20 g BB + 0,39 mg/20 g BB, group V was the combination of seed extrac mahagony- glibenclamide (50%: 50%) dose of 0,23 mg/20 g BB + 0,26 mg/20 g BB, and group was the combination of seed extract mahogany-glibenclamide (75%: 25%) dose of 0,21 mg/20 g BB + 0,345 mg/20 g BB. The antidiabetic effect was obtained by measuring glucose levels for 12 days with 3 days interval, then it was statisticallyl tested by one way analysis of variance that continued with Tukey HSD and the result was the trusting level was 95%. The results of the research showed that the combination of mahogany seed extractglibenclamide gave effect to the decreasing glucose levels. The higher mahogany seed extract given in combination, effect of the decreasing of glucose level wouldn’t give any significant difference.
