Abstract

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common form of primary liver cancer, accounted for 75% of reported cases. This tumor originates from hepatocytes, which are the cells responsible for the main function of the liver. More than 85% of cases occur in countries with high rates of chronic hepatitis B (HBV) infection. In Western countries, the incidence of HCC is increasing rapidly, largely due to the increased prevalence of hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus (HCV). The purpose of this study was to provide an overview of the incidence of HCC based on the results of histopathological examination at Dr. Moewardi General Hospital Surakarta in 2017. Some risk factors for HCC include age and sex. This research is descriptive by conducting secondary data collection taken from the medical records of patients who underwent HCC diagnosis based on histopathological examination at the Anatomy Pathology Laboratory of Dr. Moewardi General Hospital Surakarta for the period of January 2017 until December 2017. The results of the study were conducted on 26 samples based on histopathological examination of HCC patients in Dr. Moewardi General Hospital the period January to December 2017 aged 51-60-year-old as much as 61.5% and dominated by the male gender as much as 65.4%.
