Abstract

Antiseptic is a chemical used to kill or prevent the growth of microorganism usually preparations used on live tissue. One of bacteria can cause occurrence tooth abscess is staphylococcus aureus. The purpose of this research is know the activity bacteria Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 to three types of mouthwash that is brand “X”, “Y”, and “Z”. The experiments performed in the test of antiseptic activity using the method of paper disc diffusion. Bacteria Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 previously identified including macroscopic, microscopic and biochemical tests. Samples of mouthwash tested do dilution with concentrations of 100%, 50%, and 25%. The next step is to test the antiseptic activity and result of observation data in analysis using SPSS. Observations do with whether or not there observed antiseptic activity in the area of obstacle (mm). The result of this study showing mouthwash brand “X” has no antieptic activity, while brand “Y”, brand “Z” has antiseptic activity againts bacteria Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Got the results that third brand of mouthwash which is most effective in inhibiting growth bacteria Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 is brand “Y” mouthwash at consentration of 100% with an average area of obstruction area of 17 mm.
