Abstract
Arthritis is a general term for inflammation and swelling in joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease (disease that occurs when body attacked by its own immune system) which results in prolonged inflammation in the joints. Brotowali stem and ciplukan herb presumed to have efficacy as anti-arthritis. The purpose of this study was to determine anti-arthritis effect of brotowali stem ethanol extract, ciplukan herb ethanol extract and combination of both herbs to white male mice. Testing of anti-arthritis effect was divided into 5 groups, each group induced Complete Freund's Adjuvant. The first group was treated brotowali stem extract (40 mg/200 g BW), the second group was given ciplukan herb extract (50 mg/200 g BW), the third group was given combination of brotowali stem and ciplukan herb extracts (0,5:0,5), the fourth group was given triamcinolone (0,072 mg/200 g BW), and the fifth group was given 1 % CMC. The parameters used in this study were reduction in weight gain and edema volume which measured from day 0 to day 7, other parameters used was observe there was decrease leukocyte number and histopathological test which observed at day 12, where test animals was sacrificed. The results was showed that brotowali stem extract, ciplukan herb extract and combination of brotowali stem and ciplukan herb extracts had anti-arthritis effect when compared to negative control. Group combination of brotowali stem and ciplukan herb extracts which most effective as anti-arthritis were showed by parameters of volume edema decrease, leukocyte number decrease and histopathological profile improvement. Based on two-way ANOVA statistical test that anti-arthritis activity which showed comparable with triamcinolone effect (P > 0.05) Keywords : Tinospora cordifolia W, Physallis angulata L, extract, anti-arthritis
