Abstract
Laboratory is one of medical facilities provided to support disease diagnosing. Laboratory also serves as the place where a variety of researches was conducted concerning disease germ media breeding; for that reason, the laboratory environment became one of the best places for the infectious disease to develop, so that the laboratory personnel should avoid work accident by using self-protective apparatus because it is one of way of avoiding such the work accident. The objective of research was to find out the knowledge and motivation on the use of self-protective apparatus (APD) in laboratory personnel of Surakarta Dr. Moewardi Local General Hospital. This study was an observational research with cross-sectional approach. The data collection was conducted using questionnaire and observation. The data analysis was conducted using F- and t-tests with SPSS version 17.0 program help. The result of research showed that the knowledge of the Surakarta Dr. Moewardi Local General Hospital laboratory personnel affected significantly the use of Self-Protective Apparatus indicated with t-statistic of 6.404 higher than t table of 2.032 at significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. Meanwhile, the motivation of laboratory personnel of Surakarta Dr. Moewardi Local General Hospital affected the use of Self-Protective Apparatus indicated by the t-statistic of 1.281 lower than t-table of 2.032 at significance level of 0.208 > 0.05.
