Abstract
Dengue disease vector is the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Aedes aegypti mosquito breeding can be prevented by botanical larvicide using bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight.) Walp). Bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight.) Walp) contain saponin, flavonoid and alkaloid. The aim of the experiment was to find out the larvacide activity of n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetat fraction, and water fractions of bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight.) Walp) against Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae III-instar, who declared LC50 and find out the most active fraction. Bay leaves powder macerated at a temperature of 15-20°C for 5 days to extract viscous using ethanol 70% solvent and then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water solvents. Each suspended in a solution of distilled water. Dilute to five serial concentrations (300 ppm, 400 ppm, 500 ppm, 600 pm, 700 ppm). Test solutions included in the test glass containing 20 larvae of Aedes aegypti III-instar for 24 hours, counting the dead larvae. The experiment was done three times for each concentration and using Abate 1G® 0.01% as a positive control and distilled water solution as a negative control. LC50 concentrations of each determined by using probit analysis. The result of the experiment showed that n-hexane fraction of bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight.) Walp) has the most active larvicide activity with LC50 of 381 ppm compared with the ethyl acetate and water fractions with consecutive LC50 value of 464 ppm dan 609 ppm. Key words : Aedes aegypti, bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum (Wight.) Walp), nhexane fraction, ethyl acetate fractions, water fraction, LC50.
