Abstract

Mangosteen rind (Garcinia mangostana L.) is a medicinal plant which containing xanthone compound, which has been proven to have antioxidant activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of mangosteen rind ethanol 70% extract in reduce liver necrosis of wistar strain mice which induced by isoniacid and rifampicin. Mangosteen rind extract is obtained by maceration methods of extraction used a solvent of ethanol 70%. 24 Mice divided into 6 groups. All groups induced isoniacid and rifampisin, except normal controls. Control positive given methicol doses 63 mg/kg BW mice. Group treatment given test solution of ethanol 70% extract of mangosteen rind 450 mg/kg BW, 900 mg/kg BW, 1080 mg/kg BW. On the 29th days, all mice were sacrificed, mice liver was made histopatology preparation by method block paraffin and staining use Haemotoxillin Eosin (HE). Examination hispatologis by used a microscope light with a scaled up 1000 times. Each room of view counted the total amount of nucleus and piknoktik nucleus. The results obtained were statistical analyzed by One Way ANOVA test. The results showed that ethanol 70% extract of mangosteen rind dose of 1080 mg/kg BW mice was the most effective dose for hepatoprotector. Dose 1080 mg/kg BW mice most effective in reducing liver necrosis of white male mice showed by the percentage of 18,72 %. While at doses extract 450 mg/kg BW mice and 900 mg / kg BW mice each percentage necrosis were 39,32 % and 29,31 %. Keywords: Mangosteen rind, isoniacid, rifampicin, hepatic necrosis
