Abstract

Hematocrit is a measure that determines the number of red blood cells in 100 ml of blood expressed in percent (%). Hematocrit examination can be done with the manual method which is the ratio of the blood that contains red blood cells to the volume of whole blood by visually estimating the volume of red blood cells, and the automated method is the result of the calculation of the mean cell volume and red blood cell count. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in the results of the manual method hematocrit (microhematocrit) with automatic method. The study uses cross-sectional approach the design of comparative was conducted in May 2014 using 49 samples. The results obtained from the Paired samples t-test with probabilitas (p) 0.238> 0.05, that means the average hematocrit test results with the manual method and automatic method no significant difference, basically the results of hematocrit automatic method is also affected by the number of red blood cellsand blood cell volume is also a factor that determine the results of the manual method. The author gives advice to laboratory personnel hematocrit examination may use the automatic method or the manual method because there are no significant differences in hematocrit test results, in addition to the necessary further research on methods of hematocrit ratio manual inspection with automatic method in patients with disorders of the red blood cells. Keywords: Hematocrit, Manual Methods, Automatic Method.
