Abstract
Nifedipin is used in the medicinal treatment of hypertension. There’re two kinds of nifedipine have been marketed, branded products and generic products, both of them have difference in formulation and fabrication. Nifedipine is included in drug class II according to the Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS), so it is necessary to do comparative dissolution test to ensure similarity of the quality products. This study was aimed to know and compare the physical quality and the similarity of dissolution profile (f2) between branded and generic products of nifedipine. This study was used 5 tablets of nifedipine consist of two kinds of generic products and three kinds of branded products. Dissolution tests was conducted according to the British Pharmacoeia, used dissolution tester type 2 (paddle method), the speed of rotation is 50 rpm, in 900 mL HCl 0,1 N medium at 37 ± 0,5ºC. Determination of nifedipine tablets dissolution used a UV-Vis spectrophotometer in 238 nm. Parameter were observated are Q45 value, DE60, and the similarity factor (f2). Based on the results of physical quality and dissolution profiles, nifedipine tablets of branded and generic products comply the requirements of good tablets in quality control, while the value of similarity factor (f2) for all of the products showed good equivalence, in range 50-100. Keywords : Nifedipine, Dissolution, BCS II, Similarity factor (f2).
