Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis. The rapid development of drug formulation technique, so needed a practical preparation to treat tuberculosis, which is by combination of papaya leaf and morinda extracts. Chemical contents exist in papaya leaf and morinda can be used for tuberculosis treatment. Combination of these two extracts were made capsules using simplex lattice design (SLD). The purpose of this study was to obtain the optimum formulation combination of PVP and explotab® which required to make capsule of papaya (Carica papaya L.) leaf and Morinda (Morinda citrifolia L.) extracts by simplex latice design reviewed from physical quality. Capsule formulation of morinda and papaya leaf extracts was made by dry granulation with addition of lactose, PVP and Explotab®, the lubricant used was Mg stearate, then conducted physical quality test of granule, and water absorption. Determination of optimum formula simplex latice design with attentionto pay physical properties of resulting granule mixture. Results which obtained from experiments was analyzed by independent test sample t-test. The results showed that optimum formula of material mixture of PVP binder and Explotab® was PVP 19.6044 mg : Explotab® 100.3956 mg. Parameters which used for optimum formula include flow rate, water absorption, and disintegration was indicated value of <0.05, so physical quality of capsule combination of papaya leaf and morinda extracts was acceptable.
