Abstract

Chronic renal failure is a condition in which the kidney loses its function gradually. In Indonesia alone, kidney failure is one of the relatively common diseases. In the year 2015 most vulnerable age occurred at age 45-54 years that is equal to 29,80%. Anemia is a common thing that often occurs in patients with chronic renal failure (CKD), about 80-90% of patients experience anemia especially when it entered stage III. Many factors can affect the etiology of anemia, ie reduced production of erythropoietin hormone (EPO), shortening of erythrocyte life and iron deficiency. To determine the type of anemia is then performed investigations such as examination of erythrocyte index (MCV, MCH, MCHC), Ret-He and serum iron. This study aims to determine the correlation of erythrocyte index with Ret-He level in patients anemia with CKD. This research uses an observational analytic research design with cross sectional approach. Using secondary data with samples of 35 CKD patient data with anemia. This study was conducted from April to June 2018. Statistical analysis was performed by using Saphiro Wilk test for normality test and Pearson correlation test. The results of this study have positive, moderate and significant correlation between MCV, MCH and Ret-He( r = 0,512 ; p = 0,002 and r = 0,531 ; p = 0,001. whereas there was no correlation between MCHC ( r = 0,147 ; p = 0,005) and Ret-He level. Further research is needed to know the correlation of erythrocyte index in patients anemia with CKD, other than Ret-He level for example by ferritin examination.
