Abstract

Beluntas leaf (Indian Camphorweed) (Pluchaea indica L.) and Meniran leaf (Phyllantus niruri L.) are a traditional medicinal plants that contains alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tanin, triterpenoid compounds. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanolic extract from Beluntas leaves and Meniran leaves against Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. Ethanolic extract of Beluntas leaves and Meniran leaves obtained by maceration method using 96% of ethanol solvent. Isolation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria using PSA media and identification of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria using biochemistry test and gram painting. Antibacterial testing method with paper disc diffusion method. Dilution of ethanolic extract of Beluntas leaves and Meniran leaves was made in various comparisons at 50% concentrations using 2% of DMSO. The result of this study showed that Beluntas leaves and Meniran leaves extract have antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Ethanolic extract from Beluntas leaves and Meniran leaves with the comparison of 1 : 0, 3 : 2, 1 : 1, 2 : 3 and 0 : 1 have antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa in laboratory culture with the average inhibition zone in a row of 7,00; 8,66; 10,00; 10,00 and 11,33, whereas in Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria pus patient sample the average inhibition zone is 8,66; 10,00; 11,66; 11,33 and 14,00. Diameter of inhibitory zone of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria in patient pus is more bigger than Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria in laboratory culture.
