Abstract

Nutmeg is a native Indonesian plant. The fruit consist of nut, nutshell, and flesh of fruit. The most important part in commercial use of the nutmeg is the nut itself. The nut can be proceed to be many products. Some of them are essential oil and oleoresin. Essential oil content of nutmeg is less than 5% of the weight. Some recent research on nutmeg essential oil has been driven to the using of it in treating disease caused by bacteria and fungus. Extraction of the oil done by water distillation method which resulting oil in 0.30% yield. The essential oil then analyzed with GC-MS. The anti-bacteria tested against Escherichia coli and Staphylococus aureus. GC-MS analysis was done to find out the contain of chemical substances in the nutmeg essential oil. Five dominant substances with highest peak then taken into a note. They are: γ-terpinene, 3-cyclohexene-1-ol,4-metthyl-1-(1-methylethyl), safrol, Miristisin, metil ester. The essential oil tested against bacteria Escherichia coli dan Stapylococus aureus using diffusion and delusion method. Essential oil tested with dilution method did not result any KHM and KBM caused by insufficient solvent. The diffusion test resulting low impact on E. coli and high impact in S. aureus bacteria.
