Abstract

Salam (Syzigium polyanthi) plant is the one beneficial for traditional medicine, used to cure diarrhea, to dissociate urine (diuretic), to lower cholesterol level and ureic acid. The objectives of research were to find out diuretic effect, most effective dose and to analyze the urine physics of salam leaf ethanol extract on the wistar-strain male white rat (Rattus norvegicus). The salam leaf was extracted using soxhletation method with ethanol 70% as the solvent. The tested animals were divided into 5 groups. Each group consisted of 5 rats. The rats were fed with warm water at certain volume and then given treatment per oral. The group I was positive control (furocemide 0.72 mg/200g BW), group II was negative control (CMC suspension), group III (ethanol extract at 18mg/200 BW dose), group IV (ethanol extract at 54mg/200 BW dose). Urine volume and physical parameter data were measured 6 hours since the treatment. The data obtained was then analyzed statistically using a oneway ANAVA and followed by Post Hoc test at confidence level of 95%. The result of research showed that ethanol extract of salam (Syzigium polyanthi) leaf had diuretic effect. The most effective dose as diuretics was 36mg/200g BW, indicating urine with yellow color, rather turbid, with 1.012 density and acidity degree of 7.4 on the wistar-strain male white rat (Rattus norvegicus). __________________________________________________________________ Keywords: salam (Syzigium polyanthi) leaf, soxhletation, diuretics, white rat
