Abstract
The salam leaf was beneficial to remove pain (analgesic) and dissociate urine (diuretic) because of its flavonoid content. The objectives of research were to find out diuretic effect viewed from urine’s volume and the presence of glucose, protein, urea, creatine after distribution of salam (Syzygium polyanthum) leaf ethanol extract viewed from urine’s wistar-strain male white rat (Rattus norvegicus). The salam leaf was extracted using soxhletation method with ethanol 70% as the solvent. The tested animals were divided into 5 groups. Each group consisted of 5 rats. The rats were fed with warm water at certain volume and then given treatment per oral. The group I was positive control (furocemide 0,72mg/200g BW), group II was negative control (CMC suspension), group III (ethanol extract at 18mg/200 g BW dose), group IV (ethanol extract at 36mg/200 g BW dose), and group V (ethanol extract at 54mg/200 g BW dose). Urine volume were measured and data chemical analyzed were measured 6 hours since the treatment. The data obtained was then analyzed statistically using a one-way ANAVA and followed by Post Hoc test at confidence level of 95%. The result of research showed that ethanol extract of salam (Syzygium polyanthum) leaf had diuretic effect. At 36 mg/ 200 g BW dose had diuretic effect the most optimal. From glucose analysis, there was no glucose detected in urine. The semi-qualitative protein examination obtained 1+ is contained a turbidity light and 2+ is visible items in turbidity. Decreased levels of urea in the urine and at 36mg/ 200 g BW dose an increase in creatine levels. Keywords: salam (Syzygium polyanthum) leaf, soxhletation, diuretics, white rat
