Abstract

Adolescent self-concept is influenced by how the adolescent orphanage perceive themselves. Self-perception is based on the experience of interacting with others. Received negative perceptions of the environment will form a negative self concept as well. Negative self-concept makes the adolescent orphanage vulnerable to stress. The impact of stress on adolescent orphanage can vary and this depends on the strength of the concept itself, which ultimately determines the size of the adolescent orphanage tolerance to stress. This study aims to determine empirically the relationship between adolescent self-concept of stress in an orphanage. The hypothesis put forward by researchers is: There is a negative relationship between adolescent self-concept of stress, where the higher adolescent self-concept then the lower levels of stress will be experienced. Conversely the lower of the adolescent self-concept then the higher stress levels will be experienced. The subjects used in this study were adolescents of Wisma Kasih Kudus Orphanage. This study took as many as 50 adolescent subjects with data collection technique used was purposive sampling technique. In the analysis of the data used product moment correlation technique. The results of the tests of normality for the variable self-concept shows the results for K-SZ of 0,574 with a significance probability of 0,896 > 0,05 which indicates that self-concept variables were normally distributed. While the stress test for normality for the variable K-SZ shows the results of 0.755 with a probability of 0.618> 0.05 so that variables were normally distributed stress. The second significance of the samples obtained were> 0.05 so that it can be concluded that the samples are normally distributed. Based on the analysis of data obtained by the correlation between adolescent self-concept and stress in orphanages shows that the value of r is equal to rxy = -0.708 with a significance of 0.00 or p <0.01. From these data it can be seen that there was a significant negative relationship between self-concept of adolescents with stress. Thus this study are negatively correlated so that the hypothesis presented in this study received, namely that there is a negative relationship between self-concept of adolescents with stress.
