Abstract

Long bean serves not only as vegetable to be cooked, but also as the medication to cure such diseases as: anti cancer to cure breast cancer and leukemia, antibacterial agent, antivirus, antioxidant, antidiabetic and so on. The objective of research was to find out the anti-diabetic effect of long bean extract on blood glucose level in the mice given glucose load. The long bean was identified first for its compound content before the research was conducted. This study used glucose load method given per oral to the mice, with glibencamide as positive control, CMC as negative control, and dose variations of 0.26 ml/20 g mice BW, 0.52 ml/20 g mice BW, 0.72 ml/20 g mice BW observed at 30, 60, 90 , and 120 minutes. From the results of the average blood glucose levels of mice after administration showed that bean juice has anti-diabetic effects , but not as strong as compared to the decrease in glucose levels in the administration of glibenclamide.
