Abstract

Depression is one form of mental disorder are motivated by a variety of life problems faced by each individual. The World Health Organization (WHO) noted that depression is a common mental disorder among the population. An estimated 350 million people in the world suffer from major depression. This study aimed to determine the pattern of use of antidepressants in the treatment of major depressed patients hospitalized in the Mental Hospital Surakarta, Central Java Province in 2011. This research is non-experimental, descriptive design and sampling data retrospectively. The study population was patients with characteristic symptoms of major depressive psychotic hospitalized in RSJD Surakarta, Central Java Province In 2011 a total of 61 patients were taken. Data were analyzed descriptively to determine the patient profile and the profile of use of antidepressants, and analytical research conducted to determine the suitability of the use of antidepressant medications by factors right dose, frequency and choice of drugs. Based penelitiaan descriptive data showed that SSRI antidepressants are used by 47, 5%, tricyclic 39.3%, tetrasiklik 13, 1%. Suitability patterns of antidepressant drug use by Practice Guideline For The Treatment of Patients With Major Depressive Disorder, 3th ed. American Psichiatric Assosiation 2010, obtained the results right medicine 95, 1%, right dose 93, 4%, on the frequency of 95, 1%. The conclusions are that the use of antidepressants in the treatment of major depressive patients hospitalized in RSJD Surakarta in 2011 was appropriate.
