Abstract

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a nosocomial infection caused by Gramnegative bacteria of Proteus mirabilis, and often found in patients which using catheter. One of the traditional medicine that can be used is earthworms. Earthworm are believed have healing properties to cure chronic diseases. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity, to determine the concentration of the extract, to determine the optimal concentration of ethanolic extract of Eisenia foetida earthworm to Proteus mirabilis ATCC 10975. In this study using ethanolic extracts of earthworm (Eisenia foetida) as an antibacterial. The extract obtained by maceration method using ethanol 70% solvent. Worm extracts tested antibacterial activity to Proteus mirabilis ATCC 10975 by difusion method at concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% (w/v) with the DMSO 10% solvent. The results of this study indicate Eisenia foetida extract has antibacterial activity which showed by inhibitory diameter (clear zone) on the growth of Proteus mirabilis ATCC 10975 bacteria. The highest result obtained at a concentration of 50% w/v with an average of diameter inhibition was 11,5 mm.
